Overview

This unit aims to provide pre-service teachers with the knowledge and skills to implement the Victorian Department of Education’s Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) curriculum across all eight focus areas: Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths, Positive Coping, Problem Solving, Stress Management, Positive Relationships, Help-Seeking, and Gender and Identity . Students will examine factors that influence student wellbeing and explore the role of inclusive, culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate approaches in fostering safe, supportive and equitable learning environments. The unit situates RRRR within the broader Victorian Curriculum and whole-school wellbeing frameworks, emphasising social and emotional learning, respectful relationships, gender equity, and age-appropriate health and identity education. Through engagement with pedagogical models and evidence-informed strategies, pre-service teachers will design and evaluate learning sequences that promote resilience, relational competence and wellbeing, while developing the professional judgement required to navigate sensitive and complex topics in primary settings. Contemporary influences on children’s development, including media, digital environments and diverse social contexts will also be examined to ensure practice is responsive to current school realities.
