As an international student, you can apply through an education agent or directly to VU. If you are applying from certain countries, using an agent is compulsory.

Find the right information for you

  • 1. Find an agent

We work with trusted education agents worldwide who can help you with everything from choosing a course to applying for a visa.

You can contact a VU-approved agent at any stage of your application journey. If you are applying from certain countries, using an agent is compulsory.

    2. Choose your course

Discuss with your agent to find the perfect course. Select 'International students' on our course pages to explore options that match your interests and career ambitions.

Each course page outlines the subjects, practical experience and career paths you can expect.

Remember to select 'International students' to see information relevant to your application.

    3. Check entry requirements

To find out if you are ready to study at VU, check the 'Entry requirements' section on the international version of the course page.

You will find information about academic, English-language and other requirements for international students. You may see 'Additional information' listing requirements that are not part of the admission criteria but will need to be met while studying.

Your agent can help you understand the requirements for your chosen course, including how to prove your English language skills with standardised tests.

If you do not meet the direct entry requirements, your agent can help you find an alternative pathway, like starting with English language studies at VU.

    4. Explore our scholarships

We are proud to support thousands of international students with scholarships every year.

If you are applying for foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) studies, you will be automatically assessed for the VU Block Model® International Scholarship. This scholarship offers up to 30% off tuition fees to new international students starting eligible courses at VU Melbourne.

There are also other scholarships available through external organisations and governments.

    5. Consider credit

If you have already studied relevant subjects or had equivalent work or life experience, you may be eligible for ‘credit’, which can reduce the number of units required to complete your course.

Your agent will help you to understand and apply for credit.

During the application process, you will be prompted to complete and upload your credit application. For bachelor degrees and higher, apply for 'advanced standing'. For certificates and diplomas, apply for 'recognition of prior learning.'

To have your credit included in your Letter of Offer, you must apply at least 10 business days before the standard course application deadline. If you miss the deadline, we will assess your credit application separately.

You can also apply for credit after you have been accepted to study at VU.

    5. Gather your documents

Your agent will help you identify what documents you need for your application.

If you cannot provide all your documents at once, you can start your application and submit the missing ones later. However, this may delay the application process affect your ability to start your course in your preferred intake.

    Course requirements

Documents required to apply for your course might include:

    • certified copies of your academic transcripts and other supporting documentation
    • evidence of your English language proficiency (if available)
    • a certified copy of your passport (if available).

Some courses may have additional document requirements, which are listed on the course page.

    Credit requirements

If you are applying for credit, you will need to provide further documents that may include:

    • a completed Advanced Standing/Recognition of Prior Learning form
    • certified copies of relevant academic or completion transcripts, plus unit descriptions, translated by a nationally certified translator if they are not in English.
    • evidence of relevant employment history, such as CV, position description, and/or an employer letter outlining your duties and time in the role.

    6. Apply

Once you have gathered all your documents and provided them to your agent, they can apply to VU on your behalf. We will contact both you and your agent about the outcome, or if any further information is required.

Contact your agent directly for assistance in finalising your offer. We will include your agent contact details in your Letter of Offer.

After you apply

After you apply, our International Admissions team will assess your application and respond with the outcome in a timely manner. You may be requested to provide further information or documents. If you receive an offer to study at VU, we advise you to accept the offer and apply for your student visa as soon as possible.

You need to complete your application and receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from VU before applying for a student visa.

We set our application deadlines to give you the best chance of getting a visa in time, but visa applications can be lengthy and unpredictable. Finish your VU application as early as possible and submit your visa application as soon as you get your CoE.
