A league of her own
The placements at VU were invaluable and they helped me realise my interests and strengths.

As the youngest of three siblings to study law at VU, multi award-winning alumnus Amanda McDermott is leading the way in her career.
“My two older brothers studied law at VU, my dad is a barrister, and I have many other extended family members in the law – so it certainly runs in the family!
After school I gained an arts degree from another institution and decided to follow my heart into law at VU.
VU’s city location appealed to me with its close proximity to the courts, while the flexible timetabling made it possible to continue working in my casual paralegal job, and maintain study–life balance.
The placements at VU were invaluable and they helped me realise my interests and strengths. My internship with Victoria Police Prosecution division gave me insight into the workings of successful prosecution and court processes, and strengthened my interest in criminal law. I also completed an internship at WEstjustice as case manager at the family law and family violence clinic. It was challenging, but I found it very fulfilling.
Through VU I completed two summer school units in Berlin at Humboldt University. It was a privilege to explore the world and learn about other cultures and learning styles.
I’m now working for a law firm in the heart of the city, and I’m so excited about my future in law.
Of all the awards I won at uni, I am most honoured to have been awarded the Supreme Court Prize as the dux of Victoria Law School.”
