Following her heart
Even though all our classes are on Zoom, the teachers are really nice and they even arranged my placement for me – it’s at a childcare centre close to my house which is really convenient.
Huong Nguyen (Vietnam)
Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education
Despite a head full of accounting knowledge, Huong Nguyen is following her heart to embark on a completely different career path.
With a masters degree in professional accounting, the international student switched lanes and is gearing up to graduate with a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Victoria University (VU) later this year.
“When I studied accounting it wasn’t what I liked so I found it really stressful. But when I changed to early childhood education, I felt really happy and I have found my new passion,” Huong, from Vietnam, says.
“I have a five-year-old daughter so I originally studied the course so that I could understand more about her, but when I started placements I realised I love working with children,” she says.
“After I finish this course I’m going to study the Master of Teaching (Primary Education) at VU so that I can work as a teacher.”
Although her course is being delivered online using digitally-supported remote (DSR) learning, Huong says this hasn’t affected her understanding of the curriculum, nor her grades.
“I love my lecturers and teachers.
“Even though all our classes are on Zoom, the teachers are really nice and they even arranged my placement for me – it’s at a childcare centre close to my house which is really convenient.”
Her advice to future international students?
“Think very carefully about the course you want to study, and overcome the fear of online study because it will still help you to achieve your goals.”
