From VU student to SAP specialist
VU really prepared me for the workforce because beyond the theory, I developed presentation skills and a deep understanding of organisational change management, which is integral to my role.
The Su Su Soe (Myanmar)
Master of Business (Enterprise Resource Planning Systems)
Before she even graduated from VU, The Su Su Soe was snapped up by SAP – one of the world’s largest enterprise software corporations.
Born in Myanmar, Su studied her Master of Business (Enterprise Resource Planning Systems) at VU from July 2014 to December 2015, building on a computer science degree.
Before joining VU, Su worked for several years in software training, development and support in Singapore, ultimately deciding to enhance her career prospects with a masters in the in-demand area of enterprise resource planning (ERP).
Whilst attending a conference on the recommendation of her VU academic program director, Su was offered two jobs.
“It was always on my bucket list to go to Melbourne so I applied to VU, mainly because of the fantastic SAP-related resources available to students,” Su says.
“I met a lot of friends with the same ERP background and there were always guest lectures from outside organisations,” she says.
As a VU student, you get invited to a lot of conferences so the entire study experience was a great way to expand my networks and horizons.
Su was accepted into SAP’s Pre-Sales Academy, a one-year graduate program that took her to California to complete a six-month certification, followed by on-the-job training in Sydney, her new hometown.
She now works as a customer solutions advisor.
“I work closely with the sales team to understand customer requirements.
“Because I have the technical knowledge about our products, my part is to understand a customer’s challenges and show them our solutions through product demonstrations.
VU really prepared me for the workforce because beyond the theory, I developed presentation skills and a deep understanding of organisational change management, which is integral to my role.
Su’s advice for future international students is to “study hard and hang out with different people”.
“Both international and local students have vast knowledge and experiences that you can’t get anywhere else.”
