How Meredith is forging her own path into law
A great advantage of studying TAFE before higher ed is the preparation you get. The hands-on approach to learning provides the experience that workplaces are looking for.

Advanced Diploma of Legal Practice 22565VIC, Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Criminology
Meredith Hunt knew she wanted to be a lawyer from an early age. So she was never going to let something as insignificant as a number get in the way of her achieving that dream.
"I knew I wanted to study law from the age of 15. I worked hard at school but my ATAR score wasn’t quite enough to get directly into law. So I enrolled in the Advanced Diploma of Legal Practice, which provides a guaranteed course pathway into VU’s law degrees.
A great advantage of studying TAFE before higher ed is the preparation you get for the subject matter. The Advanced Diploma was really practical and provided a great foundation for the degree. For example, I participated in a moot court where I gained so many legal skills and also had a lot of fun.
This hands-on approach provides the experience that workplaces are looking for, which helped me land an administrative role while studying my degree.
When I began my Law/Criminology double degree, I was so much better prepared than I would have been straight out of high school. I’ve already had a legal placement volunteering at the County Court.
VU’s Block Model helps me to manage my workload. It’s intense, but focusing on one subject at a time is far less stressful than traditional learning model. And although I began the degree mid-year, I’ve been able to catch up with winter and summer school subjects. I’m also working as a student mentor at VU’s Learning Hubs.
Friends studying at other unis have felt overwhelmed and are even considering transferring to VU!
I’ve felt really supported, accessing tutoring and assisted learning. VU focuses on making your life easier so you can do well. I always rave about VU!
