This unit of study is an advanced unit designed to develop students’ knowledge of counselling theory and practice. The unit builds on the foundation units in the first year of the Master of Counselling (APT6016 and APT6017) to further develop students’ knowledge of core counselling skills, counselling assessment and the application of counselling with a range of more complex client presentations (including depression, sexual abuse, complex anxiety and relationship issues). The unit will utilise a range of teaching methods, including didactic instruction, in class activities, counselling role play and demonstration. It is anticipated that successful completion of the unit will equip students with the skills to work effectively with complex clients with complex presentations.
