Overview

Master the techniques needed to identify requirements and design a system for managing data, in the Data Management Principles and Visualization unit.

In this unit, you will learn various aspects of data management, such as:

  • architecture
  • design
  • implementation
  • optimisation
  • interactions with cloud technologies
  • big data.

You will work with relational and non-relational data management systems to structure and analyse business intelligence data.

Data applications featured in this unit include working with APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), scraping, aggregating, and storing and transporting data.

By the unit’s completion, you will understand the fundamental concepts and principles of database management as they relate to information design and analysis. You will also have the skills to use data to create reports and visual representations for presentations.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate the benefits and functions of databases and their applications;
  2. Design a database using key relational database model concepts;
  3. Investigate and critically analyse streaming methods in big data processing;
  4. Analyse and assess big data processing frameworks and technologies, contextualise the use of NoSQL technologies; and,
  5. Compose reports for data visualisation and communicate insights to stakeholders.
