Overview

Within High Fidelity Simulation and WIL settings, students will develop and demonstrate biopsychosocial patient assessment skills relevant to primary, acute and emergency health care, befitting their scope of practice. Students will apply culturally safe, comprehensive technical and non-technical skills using patient - centred communication cues to facilitate individualised, bioethical patient care. Students will use critical reflection theory to aid with contextualising how paramedic clinical practice interplays with AHPRA’s Shared Code of Conduct, and legislated Professional Capabilities.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Apply the principles of culturally safe practice to the care of individuals irrespective of culture, values, beliefs, and socio-economic status across the lifespan;
  2. Apply a person-centred approach, in the context of paramedicine, demonstrating effective communication within the health care setting;
  3. Demonstrate competency in safely assessing and managing patients with a range of conditions, relevant to their scope of practice;
  4. Contexualise the impact of the relevant code of conduct in clinical decision making, including Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) legislation and regulatory requirements; and
  5. Engage in reflection and respond appropriately to feedback regarding performance and behaviour.
