Overview

Enhancing Researcher Knowledge and Skills provides students with an opportunity to undertake a program of advanced study in order to gain mastery of an area of their discipline or of advanced skills related to their research project (either Year 1 Thesis in the PhD Integrated or the Masters project), as agreed by their academic supervisor and GRS coursework coordinator.

This study program is usually oriented around an engagement with relevant scholarly literature reviews and the explicit positioning of the student project within those fields of knowledge. However, where supervisors consider that there is a more customised set of skills required by the student in order to undertake the project, there is scope to negotiate a slightly more tailored program of work to reflect this. This individualised program of work is confirmed by supervisor and GRS and will be reflected in a Key Elements Guide to the unit learning objectives as applicable to the particular student and project, in addition to the research activities and assessment tasks by which they will be demonstrated.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Undertake a specified set of advanced cognitive, technical and creative research skills, which may include critical analysis of ideas as included in the scholarly literature, reflection, and synthesis of complex information, problems, concepts and theories, necessary to successfully conduct their Year One research project (AQF9) or to scaffold the Masters project;
  2. Interpret and transmit knowledge gained as a result of the specified set of advanced cognitive, technical and creative research skills to specialist and/or non-specialist audiences; and
  3. Demonstrate autonomy, expert judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a practitioner or learner.
