Overview

This unit equips students with specialised knowledge of construction forms and complex statutory controls pertinent to high-rise buildings. Through integrated design and development exercises, students will utilise Building Information Modelling (BIM) to create and manipulate 3D models, enhancing their understanding of building systems, structures, and services. They will gain hands-on experience with BIM technologies, such as Revit/ArchiCAD and Navisworks/Revit, applying these tools to a problem-based project. The unit also teaches students to analyse, interpret, and present both conventional and innovative construction details using BIM. Additionally, they will learn to identify and apply relevant federal, state, and local regulations in the design and development of high-rise buildings.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse, interpret and present the fundamentals of conventional and innovative construction details for buildings;
  2. Prescribe compliance requirements for design and development of high rise buildings;
  3. Interpret and apply federal, state and local building regulations, codes and standards in high rise building design and development with real world projects;
  4. Adapt the integrated design and development of building systems, structures, and services, and explore how this integration can be facilitated using BIM-based projects; and
  5. Critically review building regulatory procedures, codes and standards to present graphical and written designs and specifications details for different high rise development scenarios to feed 3D BIM model.
