Overview

Explore the economic factors surrounding the international movement of goods and services, labour and capital, with International Economic Analysis.

Topics covered in the unit include:

  • measurement and determinants of intra-industry trade
  • analysis of barriers to trade; political economy of trade
  • trade policy
  • impact of government policies on trade and welfare
  • international movement of labour and capital
  • multinational corporations and FDI
  • trade and environmental issues
  • international trade regulation.

You will engage in a range of learning activities involving:

  • practical problem-solving sessions
  • case study analysis
  • online learning activities
  • peer discussion and review
  • self-reflection.

Your learning will be guided and assessed by means of case studies, a test, a country/ industry environmental project and a group poster presentation about contemporary trade issues.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Conceptualise a broad range of theories and models of international trade;
  2. Critically assess the regulation of trade in local and global markets in identifying and solving International trade problems;
  3. Critically examine various markets of labour migration, environmental protection and foreign investment; and
  4. Communicate international trade knowledge and ideas associated with topics in the form of a market/industry report and group presentations.
