Counselling & mental health
Adjusting to university life can be difficult. It involves meeting new people, adopting new routines, learning new skills, and coping with extra expenses. These stresses are coupled with the demands of study and life outside university.
For enrolled students, VU Counselling provides professional services designed to support you in your personal, psychological, academic, and social development.
We also have a range of online and printable resources that may help you in your personal and university life.
After-hours mental health support
The Victoria University Mental Health Support Line is an out-of-hours crisis support and suicide prevention service that is available to students when our other support services are closed.
For after-hours mental health crisis support:
We're open from 4:30pm—9am on weekdays and 24-hours on weekends and public holidays.
About the support line
The Victoria University Mental Health Support Line is designed to help callers find immediate relief from emotional distress. It also explores coping strategies for their current crisis, safely manages any immediate threats to life or safety, offers referrals and opens pathways for longer-term solutions.
The service aims to provide additional mental health support to VU students, alongside the VU Counselling team. The Victoria University Mental Health Support Line is an initiative of the VU Student Union and is funded by the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
Support for TAFE students
Our dedicated TAFE Student Support team can provide social work and case management support for students enrolled in a TAFE course at VU.
